We want children at Messingham to learn, to lead and to make a difference

There is a rich history of Education in Messingham village with the first school being built in the early 1900’s.  Where our current Primary School is based was built only 10 years ago to join together the separate Infant and Junior Schools.  We are fortunate to have a modern building, and we are well resourced to meet the challenges faced currently with a focus to enable all of the children at Messingham to succeed.

We are a split form entry school and can accept up to 42 children in each year.   We pride ourselves on being a friendly and caring school with a strong commitment to pupil achievement, serving the surrounding community, where we endeavour to enable our children to become creative confident learners. Our school accommodates pupils, aged 5 to 11 years, and our main focus as a primary school is to prepare our children for the next steps in their learning journey.

We have recently become a “Values Based Education” school and the children, staff and parents have a say in the values that we want to support the children to learn, and thus give us a greater understanding of the World around us.  We have a value of the month with every assembly being about the value as well as bespoke lessons that introduce new values to the children.

Our most recent OFSTED in January 2018 identified the school as ‘Good’ in all areas of education ‘. Teachers plan lessons carefully to engage pupils and support them in taking their next steps across the curriculum. Pupils display good attitudes to learning and many are very happy and confident to discuss their work and ideas. Their attendance is consistently better than that of other pupils nationally.’  – OFSTED January 2018

I was appointed Headteacher in September 2021 and am working with the staff and Governors in order to give the children of the School the very best opportunities and experiences, as well as academic excellence that will give them the skills, knowledge and enthusiasm for to become life-long learners.

I sincerely hope you find everything you need on this website and if you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the school office where either myself or one of my team will be more than happy to help you.  We are very proud to welcome you and your children to a school where everyone is special.

Since September 2020 there have been a great deal of changes to the school.  We have recently installed a newly refurbished Long Jump Runway and Sand pit, there has been a lottery grant that has supported the Nature area development that now sees children regularly exploring our pond and mini-beasts area.  The community rallied around the school and have thus far raised in excess of £8000 to support the children of the school.  This funding coupled with the schools budget planning has enabled the school to purchase over 30 new chrome books (there were previously none) as well as to ensure that Google Classrooms was activated to support home learning during the last lockdown.  This technology is being used daily in school to support the learners of tomorrow.  All of the classrooms have been fitted with brand new Interactive Whiteboards and the teaching resources for Maths and children with SEN have been greatly improved to match the bespoke curriculum that the children of Messingham receive, indeed at the schools most recent review from the local authority the report stated ‘Senior leaders were able to describe the uniqueness of the Messingham curriculum and link this to the school context and in doing so were beginning to articulate a clear intent.’

Indeed the graduated approach to evaluating the school’s current provision stated the following:

  • There is a history of strong attainment in KS2 and results elsewhere being in-line or above National Averages and Expectations.
  • Attendance is currently 98% (From September to early part of National Lockdown 2 in November) this is very strong, behaviours to learn supported by the recovering the curriculum model in the first two weeks have children feeling safe, secure and ready to learn
  • Middle Leaders have clear Action Plans which are monitored and reflected on to support the school’s improvement and offer the best outcomes for children.

These statements support where the school is currently at, however we have a deep commitment to continue to improve the quality of education and the experience and opportunities that the children of Messingham receive and these will be carefully detailed, and monitored in our school improvement plan for 2021-2022.  We actively encourage new and existing parents to take a walk around our lovely school and if you are interested please contact the main school office for an appointment.

Kind regards
