Forest School

Forest School at Messingham Primary School

What is Forest school?

The roots of Forest School can be found in Scandinavia, where their open air culture is a way of life.

Forest school is a child centred inspirational process that offers opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions that develop confidence and self-esteem through hands on experience in a natural setting.

The Forest School process helps and facilitates more than just knowledge and gathering. At Messingham Primary Forest School we are creating a safe, non judgemental, nurturing environment where learners are encouraged to do new things and take monitored risks. This will help your child develop socially, emotionally, spiritually, physically and intellectually whilst constantly expanding their abilities by solving real world issues thus building self belief and resilience.

Forest School is a specialised learning approach that sits within and complements the wider context of ouldoor and woodland education. Messingham Forest School is run by a fully qualified Forest School leader.

Our Forest School Mission

The aim of our Forest School is to help children connect to nature. Abundant research confirms that interacting with nature can nurture creativity whilst also promoting good health, raise vitamin levels and also inspire problem solving and build the confidence of children. Here at Messingham Primary Forest School we are developing activities that will be designed to help your child thrive in our natural environment and support the development of a lifelong relationship between your child and the natural world. We want to help your child enjoy and make use of our wild space. We will help your child develop practical skills and discover new skills on their own. We aim to promote holistic development of all involved, fostering resilience, confident, independent and creative learners.
